Panafest Ghana 2023

Accra, Ghana

July 24 - August 2, 2023

CULTURE + CONNECTION

You will not want to miss your opportunity to "Sankofa" (return to your roots) on this small group experience to Ghana in 2023. This Group Getaway will be dedicated to retracing the roots of our African ancestors. We will visit the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park, Palace of the Ashanti King and the infamous Cape Coast and Elmina Slave Castles among many other sites.

Along with unique and custom tours dedicated just to our group we will also have the awesome opportunity to join The Pan African Historical Festival (PANAFEST). This is the most celebrated Pan African Festival in the world. Inspired back in 1992, by the late great Pan Africanist Efua Sutherland, PANAFEST has become a landmark festival in Ghana. This experience is sure to leave a lasting impression and you cannot leave Ghana the same way you came.

Details, Please

This unforgettable experience begins with a warm Akwaaba welcome at Kotoka International Airport in Accra. Our local guides will greet you and take you to our comfortable and centrally located hotel to freshen up and prepare for our Welcome Dinner and tour orientation where you’ll get a chance to meet your new travel family and get excited about all the adventures to come.

Day two will take us around the city of Accra with a full day City Tour. You’ll see all the city’s most iconic sites such as the W.E.B DuBois memorial and Pan African Center, Ghana’s newly remodeled National Museum, Independence Monument, Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park and National Cultural Center where you’ll get to try your hand at bargaining for local arts & crafts.

We’ll depart for Cape Coast on day three and participate in Panafest’s Akwaaba (Welcome) Ceremony. On day four we’ll climb high into the rainforest and cross the famous Kakum Canopies. After lunch nearby we’ll make our first visit to one of Ghana’s infamous slave dungeons and UNESCO World Heritage site, Elmina Castle. This visit is sure to leave you both sorrowful and hopeful as you learn about the resilience of our ancestors.

On day five we’ll leave the Cape Coast/Elmina area after an unforgettable Traditional Naming Ceremony in a local village. We’ll depart for a short experience in the cultural capital of Ghana, Kumasi (also known as the Garden City). On the way, we’ll stop at Ndonkor Nsuo (Enslaved African River) where enslaved Africans were taken for their final bath prior to being transported to the coast to await ships to the Americas.

Day six will be dedicated to a tour of Kumasi where we’ll visit the museum dedicated to the Ashanti King (Asantehene), the Kumasi Cultural Center and the craft villages of Ntunso and Adanwomase where Adinkra symbols and Ghana’s traditional woven cloth, kente originates from.

We’ll make our way back to Cape Coast on day seven and try our hand at creating local delicacies during our private cooking lessons. Our remaining time here will allow our group to join the incredible events of Panafest; Reverential Night and the Emancipation Celebration at Cape Coast Castle. Our time in Ghana culminates with a Farewell Dinner and an evening of sharing our most memorable moments together.

Ghana is just one of those places that leaves an indelible impression on all who sets foot on her soil. Join us as we embark on yet another fascinating and life-changing adventure to the Motherland!
