Ghana 2022:
The Homecoming

Accra, Ghana

August 29, 2022 - September 5, 2022

There's no place like home...

You will not want to miss your opportunity to "Sankofa" (return to your roots) on this small group experience to Ghana in 2022. This 8-day tour will be dedicated to retracing the roots of our African ancestors. We will visit the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park, Palace of the Ashanti King and the infamous Cape Coast and Elmina Slave Castles among many other sites. Our 2022 tour will also have a heavy focus on the artisans of Ghana. We will learn the process of kente weaving, bead making, wood carving and much more.

The people of Ghana are well-known to be industrious and you will marvel at how they manage to make beautiful pieces of art out of seemingly ordinary items. But don't just come to watch! You'll try your hand at many of the crafts and even take some home to show your family and friends what you learned while in the Motherland. We welcome you to come and Experience Ghana!

Details, Please

This 8-day/7-night Ghana experience is perfect for both the first time visitor as well as someone who has been before but is interested in deeper cultural immersion and making local connections. On your first day in Accra you will be greeted at the airport by our friendly and welcoming transfer partners. The evening will be your official "Akwaaba" Welcome Dinner experience.

Day two will be a completely re-vamped City Tour of Accra which includes some lesser known sites along with all the iconic monuments and buildings in the capital city. Day three takes us to learn the process of recycled glass bead making, a visit to the well-known Aburi Botanical Gardens and a cocoa farm to learn the process of cultivating Ghana's #3 export.

We will then depart Accra for a trip to the famous twin waterfalls--Boti Falls. The afternoon will be reserved for a bead making experience where you can string your own wearable art for yourself or someone special back home. We end the day in the capital of the Ashanti region: Kumasi. Day five will include a city tour of Kumasi and a visit to local craft villages where we learn the process of kente-weaving and the meanings behind the traditional Adinkra symbols used by the Ghanaian people.

Day six takes us to Cape Coast where we will trace the steps of our ancestors at Assin Manso River, where enslaved Africans would take their final bath before being transferred to the coast and await ships to carry them to the Americas. We will then visit one of the infamous dungeons, Cape Coast Castle where you can step through the "Door of No Return." Day seven completes the picture of our ancestors with a visit to Elmina Castle. After seeing both castles you can see the differences in the design and structure of such edifices.

Your time in Cape Coast wouldn't be complete without a trip to Kakum National Park for a walk across the canopies, high above the forest. You'll also enjoy a cooking lesson and naming ceremony for those who would like to complete the "Sankofa" journey with a new Ghanaian name and welcome to the family by village elders.

This journey promises to change you and encourage you to tell others about the incredible experience you've had in the Motherland. While it might be your first time, it's guaranteed not to be the last!
