Back to Ghana, Deeper Into the Story
Come back to Ghana with Oheneba Events & Travel as we celebrate 10 years of Group Getaways. From the energy of Accra’s Makola Market to a traditional naming ceremony in Elmina and a family reunion celebration on the Volta River, The Homecoming Part II brings you closer to the people and traditions that make Ghana feel like home. Whether you’re returning after your first visit or making the journey for the first time, you’ll have the chance to create with local makers, reflect on the history that connects Ghana and the diaspora, and celebrate with a group that feels like family by the time you leave.
Details, Please
Your homecoming begins in Accra, where we’ll meet you at the airport and take you to your hotel. That evening, we’ll come together for a welcome dinner with live drumming and dance. The next day, we’ll explore the capital on a city tour that takes us into the bustle of Makola Market. Then it’s your turn to get hands-on. Make chocolate, try your hand at batik fabric-making, and spend a day in Kumasi, the historic heart of the Ashanti Kingdom.
From Accra, we’ll travel to Cape Coast for a day of remembrance and reflection. We’ll visit the historic Slave River site and Cape Coast Castle, where we’ll take time to reflect on the lives of the people who passed through these sites during the transatlantic slave trade. We’ll also pay a special courtesy visit to the chiefs and queen mothers of Cape Coast.
We’ll take the conversation into the present with a diaspora symposium exploring relocation, dual citizenship, and what it can mean to build a life in Ghana. In Elmina, we’ll take part in a traditional naming ceremony and spend the evening with members of the local African American community over dinner, line dancing, and step dancing.
We’ll visit Elmina Castle and spend time in the rainforest at Kakum National Park before returning to Accra. Then we’re off to Aqua Safari in Ada Foah for our Family Reunion Festival. Think barbecue, cocktails, music, and one more chance to get on the dance floor together. We’ll round out the celebration with a cruise on the Volta River before saying our goodbyes the following day.
